Opposition Says Dissident Ministers Must Leave Cabinet

John Briceño

But Opposition Leader John Briceño believes that the current administration is the most corrupt and incompetent the country has ever seen. He says it was the antithesis of their platform on entering office, and now, years too late, some are starting to see the light. He says those persons know exactly what to do.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“Minister after Ministers are being implicated, are being called out as corrupt, and the Prime Minister refuses to act. Now I know there are some Ministers who are trying to distance themselves away from all of this corruption, I have heard that they have mentioned it. But then if they feel so strongly against the corruption that is taking place in their government they need to act. And if the Prime Minister does not want to listen to them or want to work with them, then they need to resign from the Cabinet. Because you see, in our democracy, the Cabinet, you have collective responsibility. People don’t know but in Cabinet you don’t take a vote; you discuss or you debate and at the end of the day there is a consensus, meaning that everyone is supporting the position on what has been taking place. So indirectly, these Ministers that are speaking out against the corruption in their government and in their party, they are tacitly implicated in what is happening, unless they can withdraw themselves. And if you feel so strongly against what is taking place in your government, the only thing you can do is to resign from the Cabinet, so that the entire country can see that you are standing on principle and decency and honesty in Government.”
