Dominica Counts Cost of Hurricane Maria

Within a span of fifteen hours, Hurricane Maria went from a category one to a category five storm. The catastrophic storm hit the island of Dominica on Monday night – causing widespread destruction and a state of emergency has been declared on the island. Dominica completely without power, running water and telecommunication services and there has been widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, as well as crops. So far seven persons are confirmed dead and that number is expected to rise. PM Roosevelt Skerrit undertook a flyover today in an attempt to access villages that have been cut off from the rest of the island. Skerrit’s principal advisor Hartley Henry spoke via phone today with a talk show in Antigua and Barbuda. Here’s a bit of that interview.
