John Briceño Accuses Government of Hypocrisy over Allocations

John Briceño

The Prime Minister’s decision to stop allocations of funding to the Senate Special Select Committee on Immigration past November appears to be final. But not if the social partners and opposition, who have been active in questioning witnesses, have any say about it. In addition to condemning the Prime Minister’s decision, Opposition Leader John Briceño pointed out the hypocrisy of the Government in its treatment of the Committee as opposed how the P.U.P. treated a similar committee chaired by Godwin Hulse on the Social Security Board during its time in office.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“I think the Prime Minister is being a hypocrite when he says he can’t find the money. All he needs to do is to ask Andre Vega to return the four hundred thousand dollars, and to Sharon Pitts to return the other four hundred thousand dollars – that’s eight hundred thousand dollars that they can continue the work of the Senate. I want to point out something and again it shows the hypocrisy of Minister [Godwin] Hulse: because when there was a Senate inquiry during the time the P.U.P. was in Government, that inquiry went for about two years. Minister Hulse went to do investigation in New York City; he went to [investigate] in Trinidad and Tobago; he lived high off the hog during those two years, doing the investigation. And now his government is saying they don’t have the money? That’s not for the Prime Minister to decide – that is for the Senators to decide when they want to finish. And if there is more information or more investigations to be done, let it go. Let it flow. Let them find out everything so that we can try to correct the wrongs that have taken place in that Department.”

We need to investigate where Johnny got all the money he now has. I remember his family was broke after his father was busted by the DEA.
