More Land Shenanigans, This Time Sea-Front Land in Gales Point

News Five has received further information of land grabbing, allegedly by members of the Vega family and their supporters. This time, it concerns lands on the coast in the village of Gales Point Manatee. A survey map authenticated by surveyor H.A. Fairweather and assistant Dean Williams shows eleven parcels in a straight line next to each other along the coast, most of seven and a half acres but one or two slightly larger. They are all owned by names recognized to be members and supporters of the family, including Block Six owned by Eduardo Vega, the brother of the former Deputy Prime Minister and whose name has appeared in similar land transactions.  The survey map dates back to 2011 and it is believed that the entire stretch may have ended up in the hands of Vega family members, in a pattern repeated from transactions done around the same time period in Carmelita, Ramsey Caye, the Spanish Creek section of the Belize District and elsewhere.  The accompanying land documents detailing the sales have not been located, but when they are, they would confirm the original owners turning a profit from the sale to the Vegas. News Five will keep following this story.
