John Briceño on ‘Get Mi Rich’ Scheme

John Briceño

On Monday’s newscast, we questioned why Andre Vega would be compensated with public land on a private caye in the extreme north of Belize for privately-owned land in which a transaction did not go through on Caye Caulker. It has not been established how Vega approached the Ministry of Natural Resources, but Opposition Leader Briceño is in no doubt that family played a critical role. He says it was never about Amy Forte specifically, just a ‘get-mi-rich’ scheme like the failed lottery known as Mek Mi Rich.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“I believe that all along, this is not about Miss Forte; this is about an ‘Mek Mi Rich’ scheme – remember Andre Vega [and] ‘get-mi-rich?’ That one gone bust, so he di use ‘Mek Mi Rich’ with the people’s land and the people’s resources. So it was always, all along, ah ‘get-mi-rich’ scheme; it had nothing to do with anybody. So you are right when you are saying that the Ministry of Natural Resources had no legal obligation to compensate Andre Vega. Andre Vega should have gone to Miss Forte – of course, he can’t go there because he knows what happened there, so he went directly to Daddy, and then Daddy gave him this piece of land at Mosquito Caye.”
