Thief wounded by burglary victim

Story Picture
According to law enforcement authorities, during the majority of home burglaries, the victims are asleep in their beds, totally unaware of the danger they’re in. That’s just what happened to one Belize City family early this morning. According to the Willoughbys, who reside on East Collet Canal, just after two this morning they heard their watch-dog barking loudly in the yard, but figured it was a neighbourhood cat. So imagine their shock when minutes later, a nephew sleeping in the living room sounded the alarm that someone had broken into the house, collected a number of items from inside and was getting ready to make his getaway. But he didn’t get far. That’s because twenty-seven year old Ryan Willoughby pulled out his licensed nine-millimetre handgun and took aim at the thief from his bedroom window. Willoughby fired four times…two finding their mark as the fleeing thief jumped the fence. Minutes later, a joint police/B.D.F. patrol responded to the report and tracked the injured man to the spot he had crawled to just adjacent to the Willoughby yard. The burglar was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he is being treated for two gunshot wounds to his left leg. Police have identified him as Glenford Anthony Budd of Belize City. Charges against Budd are expected to be filed shortly.
