Territorial Volunteers says Sedi must go!

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Lisa Shoman appears to have stepped on a few toes last week after writing an open letter to Prime Minister Dean Barrow, appealing to him to distance himself from comments made by Wilfred Elrington. Foreign Minister Elrington repeated in a news interview on August sixteenth, as he has said several times before, that Belize does not have internationally recognized borders, especially with Guatemala, and that resolution of the Guatemalan claim at the International Court of Justice removes that obstacle. Shoman disagrees and says she is now skeptical of going to the I.C.J. in the current circumstances. Prime Minister Dean Barrow alleged that the Inter-American Development Bank was looking into the matter. But according to the Belize Territorial Volunteers, it is Elrington who has to go. BTV leader Wil Maheia explained why in a telephone interview with News Five today.

“The present Foreign Minister continues to make some bogus statement that will really put Belize in a bad situation internationally. We have gotten our independence, were all the nations of the world except Guatemala recognized our borders and that was done I 1981. So, I cannot understand, or we cannot understand why the Prime Minister of Belize will continue to forward those kind of events with his foreign minister. Something is not right there and we are demanding that the remove Elrington as the foreign minister because he is a disgrace to this nation. And we Belizeans first of all we stand in solidarity with our …he ex- foreign minister, Senator Lisa Shoman. And if the Prime Minister is having problems trying to fill the present foreign minister position, I am pretty sure that Lisa Shoman will do a great job at that.”
