The Former Tropical Storm Harvey to Cross Belize Tonight

The National Meteorological Service is reporting that the remains of what was once Tropical Storm Harvey are expected to reach the coast of Belize or the Yucatan Peninsula early on Tuesday. It is still possible for the system to organize, but whether it does or not, expect lots of rain starting tonight and continuing through most of Tuesday, with the possibility of flash flooding and localized flooding. We get more from meteorologist Frank Tench.

“Conditions are still there for some minimal development before the storm makes landfall either on the coast of Northern Belize or Yucatan; so the conditions are there. That’s a fact. The conditions are there for some minimal development and you want to be prepared for that possibility; but it’s not been doing [enough strengthening.] We still have a window of opportunity for some minimal development. What seems pretty obvious is we’re going to get quite a bit of rain from it, especially for northern and coastal parts of Belize; quite a bit of rain will come when the remnants of Harvey cross land late tonight.”

As always, Belizeans are advised to monitor the progress of this system closely and to stay tuned to official updates from NEMO and the National Meteorological Service.
