N.S.C. Raises Funds for CODICADER Team

Over a hundred young athletes under the age of fifteen years, are traveling to Honduras this weekend to participate in the CODICADER Games.  Despite initial concerns that Belize would be ineligible to host future competitions once it was unable to send a delegation, the National Sports Council has secured resources necessary to take part in the scheduled tournament.  This afternoon at the Marion Jones conference room, Director Ian Jones formally introduced the group that will be representing Belize in the U-fifteen games.

“I know a couple weeks ago, the media wasn’t very nice to the National Sports Council when it was rumored that we would be suspended from CODICADER and not participating.  As the weeks went by that proved to be an incorrect statement.  And so today we are here to showcase our many athletes who have been training over the past couple weeks to prepare for the CODICADER U-15 games.  In total we are taking a delegation of a hundred and thirteen which includes athletes from football, volleyball, basketball, chess and table tennis.  Unfortunately, all the athletes are not here today because we have athletes coming from as far away as from PG and from Corozal and we didn’t want them to tire their bodies just before we travel.  We are planning to leave early Sunday morning so that we could reach Tegucigalpa, Honduras at least before nightfall or at nightfall on the same day.  We have put in a lot of investment, the sports council, the Government of Belize in making sure that we are prepared for these games and that all the resources for these games were put in from the sports council and the Ministry of Sports to have the kids prepared and have them properly uniformed and to have them feel as if they are a part of a team and to feel like winners even before we leave.”
