How Will P.S.U. Deal with Suspended President Eldred Neal?

There is internal turmoil in the Public Service Union tonight. This afternoon, the Belmopan branch of the Union issued a release announcing plans for a meeting on Saturday with mediators, the Council of Management and president Eldred Neal. The meeting will discuss his suspension following controversial remarks made by Neal about the Garinagu people during a private recorded conversation with fellow unionists Lorelei Westby, the President of the Belize Water Service Workers Union, and Marvin Mora, General Secretary of the Belize Energy Workers Union. But this evening, a release from the Council of Management said it distanced itself from the prior release. While it does want Neal to sit down with fellow executives to discuss the matter, it denies that the Union has not been functioning, stating that the other presidents and the Council have been managing the office while Neal is suspended. It also notes that calling the names of the other unionists in the recording could be considered slander and defamation.  The Council of Management release says the P.S.U.’s annual general meeting will be held in Belmopan at the National Show Grounds on August nineteenth, while the former release says a date will be set if the August twelfth meeting goes through.
