Cesar Monroy Found Murdered on Davis Falls Road

There was a grisly discovery this morning in the Stann Creek District where the decomposing body of a Guatemalan farmer was found on a road in Alta Vista Village.  Forty-nine-year-old Cesar Augusto Monroy was hacked to death along the Davis Falls Road.  He had been chopped on the neck and left hand.  Around six-thirty a.m., an elderly farmer, also of Alta Vista Village, happened upon Monroy’s remains after following a trail of blood on some stones.  Initial police reports indicate that Monroy left home on Sunday August sixth, sometime in the evening and never returned home.  It is unclear what transpired after Monroy left his residence or who he encountered along the stretch of road.  A police investigation remains ongoing according to Superintendent Leslie Wade.

Supt. Leslie Wade, O.C., Dangriga Police

“About around 6:30 this morning, Dangriga police were called out to Alta Vista Village and they went on this road that they call Davis Falls and just off the road they discovered a male Hispanic individual.  He was lying down on the left side of his body and he had what appeared to be a large cut wound to the back of the neck and left arm.  He was identified to be Mr. Cesar Monroy.  I don’t remember the date of birth at this time but he was last seen on Sunday afternoon, departing from the village, from his home going out into the village of Alta Vista.  That was the last time he was seen by his cuncuno.  He and another guy Jose Antonio that lives in the same residence saw him going out into the village and it was until this morning that his body was discovered.  It was already in a bad stage of decomposition so the post mortem is still ongoing at this time.  I haven’t gotten the result as yet so I cannot say as to the cause of death, but we are investigating it.  There is no motive at this time.  As to his family members, he used to live with a Guatemalan also, he’s Guatemalan.  But at this time his common-law is in Guatemala but his other family members we have absolutely no knowledge of them living here in Alta Vista.  So we are investigating the matter at this time.”
