New Capital Sees Internal Dissension in U.D.P. Slate

And from the north to the west where Belmopan is in full swing lining up their candidates for the U.D.P. convention on August thirteenth.  But all is not well and that there are signs of internal conflict boiling over. Over the past few days several Facebook posts indicate that there is dissention in the camp, some pointing fingers at Area Rep John Saldivar for meddling in the city’s election business.  One post by sitting Belmopan Councilors shows a slate without Anna Banner Guy.  Guy topped the polls in the last municipal elections and some quarters say that she brought in the young voters for the U.D.P.  So, is she being boxed out for three new councilor-hopefuls and three incumbents? She also took to social media with a lengthy post to inform her supporters that she did submit her application to the party, but she was away dealing with an urgent family matter. She says, “plans were then made by the party’s executive body for Belmopan as to how to prevent me from returning as a U.D.P. candidate…” and “the plan now, is to humiliate me leading to this August thirteenth convention. I am the only candidate not being endorsed by the U.D.P. Belmopan.” Guy noted in her post that she will not step aside quietly, pointing out that the reason she is excluded is because she supported Patrick Faber for Deputy Party Leader. Guy goes on to call out her fellow councilors for not having the courage to stand up for fair play and ethics.
