Safe Space for Basketball

Joevannie Collins

The CASSA program, Creating A Safe Space Agenda, is wrapping up its third year. The project has been running now in its third year at YWCA where kids from high school—both first form and second form—and primary school, standard five students receive lessons in a number of core subject areas. As a part of the closing, a basketball competition will be held on Friday at the YWCA in Belize City. We spoke with Joevannie Collins of the CASSA Project about the friendly competition.

Joevannie Collins, Belize City Team Leader, CASSA Project

“We are having a basketball competition and this competition is open to the general public for a friendly competition. We try to emphasize collaboration in regards to the community, where we work together and coincide in different capacities; so, we are inviting anybody who has a basketball team or who think that they could ball, you could come and prove yourself tomorrow, Friday. At this basketball competition, we have about eight teams registered already in junior and senior capacities. So, if you feel the need to want to come out and participate, please be here at eight in the morning, as the registration will be from eight to eight-thirty and then we kick off at nine until three in the afternoon. It is free of cost; there is no registration fee and all you have to do is show your face.”

“We have put together medals and trophies. We will have food on sale and a lot to give away because the Y is all about giving, right? So, you should come out support your team and let your families support you and we will have a grand event.”
