Dion Leslie defends CitCo against internal issues

Dion Leslie

At this point in time, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley is on the outside looking in at City Hall. He has not put his name down to run for a third term and it appears his run as chief municipal administrator may be over. The strain of getting along with eleven different personalities has been getting to the Mayor as of late, and he complained to reporters that it was like working through a bad marriage: despite having differing philosophies and personalities, you stick together for the sake of the children, or in this case, the City. Bradley also emphasized that the work was still getting done, and City Councilor Dion Leslie agrees. He told us on Monday that the recent troubles are only a snapshot of the two terms of Bradley’s mayoralty and that the Council thinks of its constituents first and foremost.

Dion Leslie, City Councilor

“You’ll always find instances in organizations like City Council or whichever governmental organization where you have one or two elected people – Cabinet at times, maybe even – where you have strong personalities, different ideas, people fighting for what they think is right or trying to push what they believe is right or would be beneficial to the residents of Belize City in their respective area; but that doesn’t mean we don’t work good together. That only means it’s even better – eleven of us, eleven brilliant minds coming together, we take one topic or one issue and we discuss it. I believe when you all caught Mayor Bradley, we had just had a little misunderstanding or an argument in council which is good, because we trash out everything; we bring up all ideas, we say what we don’t like, he says what he doesn’t like and we work it out, but at the end of the day everything we do, all decisions that are made by Council are made with the residents of Belize City in mind and everything is done for the benefit of the residents.”
