Still no charges, D.P.P. have to final say

Charges relating to the alleged murder of adopted daughter Faye Lin Cannon are yet to be levied.  From what we have learnt, there is not enough evidence as to who murdered the young girl inside the couple’s apartment on the island.  According to ComPol Whylie, the police department is awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to proceed with criminal charges.

“In respect of the fact that the post mortem examination indicated that Faye Lin Cannon may not have died of natural causes, in this case the report has that she was both physically and sexually assaulted, thus precipitating a murder investigation.  Where are you guys insofar as being able to bring charges against either of these two parents, they being the prime suspects?”

“The investigation is ongoing.  I understand that all the statements, evidence gathered, the file has been compiled and has been forwarded to the D.P.P.   Certainly the D.P.P. will take her time to go over that file to see whether or not we have sufficient evidence at this time to bring charges against anyone.  And if the D.P.P. so directs then we would, if she says no then we need to continue investigate and then we’ll continue to investigate.  It’s a heinous crime, in my view, and a difficult crime to investigate because of the fact that it occurred within the privacy of their home and it occurred within one family, and so the investigators have been interviewing, along with social [services], the members of the family, in particular, the children and we’ve submitted what we have to the D.P.P.   I don’t think we’re at the stage that we can charge until we hear from DPP whether or not what we have is sufficient to do so.”
