Queen of the Bay, Belize District Pageant Saturday Night

The Belize District Queen of the Bay Pageant takes place at the Bliss on Saturday, with three contestants vying for the regional title.  Organizer Joan Arnold says the pageant aims to level the playing field since there have been concerns that the national competition was not fair to some contestants.  That has prompted them to put forward three young ladies representing Crooked Tree, Altun Ha and St. John’s Cathedral.  Arnold told us more about the weekend event.

Joan Arnold, Queen of the Bay Committee

“In former years there wasn’t a pageant for the Belize District and it was felt that the girls had unfair competition because they were not part of a previous pageant.  So it was decided that to give them a fair chance at the Queen of the Bay title that we have a pageant and the winner goes forward to the national competition.”

Tessa Ashanti Stuart, Miss Altun Ha

“As a student at the Anglican Cathedral College, I have always had a passion for our history and I choose Altun Ha because it’s a very historical and popular site for our locals and tourists to visit.”

“Okay.  And why do you want to be Miss Queen of the Bay Belize District?”

Tessa Ashanti Stuart

“I want to be Miss Queen of the Bay Belize District because I want to be a youth development administrator helping youths and directing them in the right path.”

Kadisha Parks, Miss Crooked Tree

“With the title Queen of the Bay, first of all I would like to be an advocate.  I’m a very outgoing person, I’ve always been in youth programs such as donating myself or spare time to the Dorothy Menzies.  I’ve been a part of YWCA, so for me, more than likely the title is just to get out there and present myself and work with community policing and all these other N.G.O.s that assist youths in our country.”

Joan Arnold

“The pageant will be this Saturday night, the eighth of July at the Bliss Institute and the cost is fifteen dollars to go in. People can expect a very informative and well put together pageant.”
