Police catch shooter of Elward McKay in Belize City
Ladyville police have one person in custody following a shooting on Monday night. Around nine-thirty p.m., shots rang out on Pigeon Street as a gunman took aim at twenty-seven-year old Elward McKay, who was shot multiple times, to the back and chest. An unsuspecting McKay was riding his bicycle when his assailant rode up from behind and opened fire on him. But while police were patrolling the area, they came across twenty-two-year-old Jesse Mejia, a resident of Eagle Street in Ladyville, who rode off on his bicycle in efforts to evade the officers. The patrol set chase after Mejia, who was seen throwing an object in the bushes. He was apprehended and taken to the area where police found a point thirty-eight revolver with four expended shells and two live rounds. It is believed that Mejia was the gunman who fired the shots at McKay. While charges are pending for Mejia, McKay remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition.
