What started Holy Emmanuel arson?

The Fire Department says that the fire that happened on Holy Emmanuel Street in Belize City seems to be a case of arson. The twelve by fourteen wooden structure was burnt out by fire on Sunday night and the family claimed it was intentionally set on flames by a relative. Benisford Matura of the Fire Department says the investigation is still ongoing, and while the fire appears to have been set, there is not much to tell what was used to start the fire. Here’s what he had to say.

Benisford Matura, Operations Officer  National Fire Service

Benisford Matura

“Upon arrival our first apparatus encountered a wooden structure, approximately 12 by 14 totally engulfed in flames. The size of the structures and being wooden by the time we got there it was already burnt already and we extinguished the remains.”

“Has it been determined whether it was arson or not?”

Benisford Matura

“Our investigators have ruled out electrical because they didn’t have any current there. The next possible cause, because we can’t pin point as yet, the next possible cause is that it was an incendiary fire.”

“Are you able to say what material was used?”

Benisford Matura

“At this moment, no, but we are leading down towards an incendiary or as to what material or any type of accelerant or anything used to lit this house on fire we cannot ascertain that at the moment. We are still investigating what possibly could have caused it.”
