Orange Walk Man Pleads Manslaughter for Death of Girlfriend

Twenty-two-year-old Freddy Amir Blanco pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the September 2011 killing of his lover Nelsi Chuc in August Pine Ridge. Back in 2011, Blanco was arraigned for murder to which he pleaded not guilty, but when he appeared in the Supreme Court today, Blanco pleaded not guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. During mitigation plea, his attorney Oscar Selgado, asked the court for leniency. He asked the court to impose a term between fourteen to eighteen years and to consider that Blanco has enrolled in a number of rehabilitative programs since he has been in prison and that this is his first criminal offense for which he was convicted at the tender age of sixteen. The Crown Counsel for the D.P.P., Javier Chan, said that the term should be fifteen to twenty years based on manslaughter cases that go before the Court of Appeal. Judge Lord ruled that Blanco would get a prison term of seventeen years considering that he didn’t have a prior conviction and that he was only sixteen years old when he committed the crime, as well as how cooperative he was with police. He also took into consideration that when Chuc was killed a seven year old child was left without a mother. Having served almost six years in prison and pleaded to a lesser charge saving the court time, Blanco’s time was reduced to nine years and three months. Attorney Selgado was still not too satisfied with the deduction and has indicated that he will appeal the sentence. At the time of the incident, Chuc and a then sixteen year old Blanco, along with a friend, were hanging out in a cane-field when they reportedly got into an argument about smoking weed. Blanco left the cane field and went home to get a gun. Blanco later returned to the cane field and shot Chuc in the neck and she died on the spot.

That is why we have so many murders in Belize. People that kill in this way should be executed or at least life imprisonment. People see that they can kill and easily get away with a few years of prison. Its a shame of our justice system in Belize. An these stupid lawyers, just because of money are contributing to the crime rate in our society. I can see that when someone kills in self defense, then the sentence of years is justified. Our government should make all the necessary reforms to our justice system and make sure that people that kill in this way are punished with life imprisonment.

Jeez hope this lawyer never loses a family member like this and face the same music when a killer walks so easily out of jail because of a lawyer like him. But karma is real and money can do any thing, we can bribe the police they are so cheap scoundrels and a lawyer can win a judge decision due to lack of proper evidence lost by the so called police officers but the bigger Judge up stairs don’t accepts bribes never nor loses his evidence unless you repent heartily.

  3. Jaded says:

How the heck can this be manslaughter? He went home to get his father’s gun explicitly to kill her. First Degree if I ever saw a case for it. And his father should be seeing some charges as well for unsafe storage. Come on police; do your job. The lawyers are!

  4. Rosita says:

He should pay for what he did! He left a child without a mom. He is a cold blooded murderer and this is what the judge should see.
