Will accused businesswoman face lengthy jail sentence for drugs?
A Belize City businesswoman was convicted this morning in the court room of Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith for the drug trafficking of fourteen point six grams of crack cocaine and for possession of a small quantity of weed. Michelle Gotoy, a resident of Belize City was busted on December sixth, 2016, at the corner of Honda and Sibun Streets. Gotoy is accused of being in possession of the illegal substances but told the court she declared the point two grams of weed to the police and she has no knowledge of the crack cocaine. Chief Magistrate, Smith had remanded her into custody pending sentencing this afternoon but Gotoy was saved somewhat by the bell after her relatives retained attorney Alifah Elrington Hyde who got a brief adjournment until Thursday morning when she will learn her fate. The police claim they found the crack cocaine in her hand and the weed in her bag.
