Future filmmakers gather at House of Culture

About twenty budding filmmakers are learning an introductory course in video production from established director and producer Steven Torriano Berry. The creative force behind local dramatic television series “Noh Matta Wat,” Berry is no stranger to Belize and for the next five days the concepts drawn by his students will leap off the page to the screen. He told us more when we stopped in at the House of Culture.

“What we just did was an exercise that I do where everyone came up with a character, they actually wrote out a character, their name, occupation and background on the character. We took all of the characters down, put them up on the board and when we come back from lunch we are going to take probably three of those characters and build a scene or scenario around them. We are actually going to throw these three different characters from three different people’s minds into one scene or one scenario and we will come up with a concept, write the script, and that script, two to three pages, we will actually shoot and do the production, we will cast within the workshop and shoot it, edit it and hopefully have something to show at the end of the workshop.”

Aaron Humes

“So, the ultimate goal here is for these persons to walk away with some kind of basic knowledge of video production but what are you expecting them to use it for going forward? I mean not just making films and that sort of thing but going forward.”

Steven Berry

Well going forward I hope that they will all go forth and do additional productions and hopefully get their production screened on television and at screenings.”

We’ll tell you all about Berry’s next project in Tuesday’s newscast.
