Serial Killer Stalking Corozal?

Dennis Arnold

There have been two double murders reported in the Corozal District within the past six weeks.  The first incident involved the gruesome abduction and strangulation of Canadian-American couple Francesca Matus and Drew Thomas DeVoursney.  They were similarly reported missing on April twenty-fifth, prior to departing the country.  Despite locating their vehicle several days after, the badly decomposed bodies weren’t discovered until six days later in a cane field off the Patchakan/Chan Chen Road.  The circumstances in the latest pair of homicides involving Zeidy Orozco and Balthazar Lopez are eerily reminiscent and beg the question of whether a serial killer is on the loose or if it is simply a case of copycat murder.  Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent Dennis Arnold, says they are looking at all angles.

Sr. Supt. Dennis Arnold, O.C., Corozal Police

“I was asked that same question and my answer is somewhat …but we cannot confirm so far that maybe we have a serial killer.  But we are certainly going to dive deep into this investigation. We have stepped up our patrol and we will bring back our village patrol.  We have just gotten another vehicle, a Tundra for the village patrol.  They will be equipped with firearm, checkpoint and cone.  So all in those back areas, those back roads, they will have sporadic checkpoints.  The QRT will have sporadic checkpoints also on those backroads.  Then the traffic will usually do the regular checkpoint on the highway. So we will have checkpoints all over Corozal.”
