Orlando Vera Headed to Jail After Guilty Finding of Perverting Justice

Orlando Vera

In the Magistrate Court today, Ballistic Examiner, Orlando Vera learned his fate and it was not good news. Vera was found guilty of abetment to pervert the course of justice and sent behind bars pending sentencing. His case was heard last week by Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, who gave her decision in a seven-page ruling handed down this morning at around eleven o’clock.   Chief Magistrate Smith concluded that the testimony of Michael Modiri remained unchallenged as it was never put to him that he was lying or that the conversation regarding the interference with the silencer and the proposed arrangement for some bullets to go missing never took place.  In January of 2016, Vera was charged with the offense of abetment to pervert the course of justice.  During the trial, tape recordings were presented as evidence of a conversation between Modiri and Vera.  The Belmopan businessman accused Vera of visiting him between June first and thirty-first, 2015, and offering to help him beat his gun case by tampering with evidence so the case would fall part.  Vera did not deny having a conversation with Modiri but said that the nature of their conversation was much more than what was recorded. At the time, Modiri had been charged with kept unlicensed firearm and ammunitions and kept prohibited material.  The Chief Magistrate concluded that after viewing both sides, the crown had proved all the elements and so she found Vera guilty.  His attorney Anthony Sylvester was invited to call character witnesses at a later date or mitigate on his behalf. But Sylvester submitted that since the act was never committed, he urged to court not to remand Vera.  After hearing from the D.P.P., Vera was remanded to the Belize Central Prison for the offense which carries up to a five-year term.  Vera will be sentenced next week next Thursday, 2017.

I guess people who are kin will be ready to watch out before next election comes and I won’t vote since I don’t believe none of the scums bu those that really are fanatics politically should open their eyes before they vote. These scums people put are just pillaging our Jewel to he max while they get rich and we the poor and our future kids will end up paying the price. The sad truth is that none of these parties are trust worthy now red nor blue.
