Progressive Party Wants Castro Investigated; Saldivar is Wrong Too

The People’s United Party has called for the removal of Minister of State Edmond Castro, following the revocation of his visa by the U.S. State Department. The Belize Progressive Party called for further investigation of the reason for the recent revocation of Castro’s U.S. visas, which he says were about to expire.  The B.P.P. states in its press release, “The determination of the U.S. State Department, to undertake such a move is cause for concern, as it was undoubtedly enacted for a particular reason. Given the responsibility vested in elected officials, full disclosure concerning this matter is necessitated. Following the conclusion of an unbiased and thorough investigation, the Rule of Law must prevail and let the chips fall where they may.” We hear more from B.P.P. Chairman Paco Smith, who also addressed the allegations against Defence Minister John Saldivar.

“Inquiring minds want to know and basically that’s what the B.P.P. is sying. We are asking that the relevant due diligence is conducted at all levels, to ensure that this individual who’s been vested with the responsibility of representing the people and nation of Belize is made to answer certain questions that can shed light on the situation.  Of course, the agreement that has been struck between the United States and the Government of Belize with regards to the use of those vehicle should be clear. Now on the surface – and I don’ t want to utilize the Prime Minister’s favourite term, the optics – but fundamentally, looking at the situation, and knowing intuitively that using Government equipment for seemingly personal reasons or personal interests is not the best thing to do. And if the Government of the day countenances that type of behaviour or activity, then I think it is proof positive to the fact that the resources of this nation are not being used in the most productive fashion.”
