P.U.P. to Call Out Gaspar Vega at Next House Meeting

Gaspar Vega

Orange Walk North area representative and former Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega has not attended a single meeting of the House of Representatives since October last, after resigning from Cabinet. He has made no public statements and actively seems to be avoiding public scrutiny in the wake of various land deals exposed for alleged crookedness and corruption. If Vega does eventually return to the House as prophesied by Prime Minister Dean Barrow, then the Opposition People’s United Party, according to leader John Briceño, will be waiting for him.

“Honorable Gaspar Vega continues to be paid by the taxpayers, and he has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to be here in the House to represent his people. What is he ashamed of? What, did he do something wrong? So maybe that’s why he doesn’t want to come to the House? I’m going to say it now: at every House meeting I am going to get up at the beginning to announce how many times he has missed and that we are asking and demanding from the Prime Minister to ensure that his representative comes to the House. I think it’s about seven times that he has missed already in a row? And the next meeting I am going to get up and say this is the eighth meeting he has missed. We need him in the House because we would want him to answer questions: why is he hiding? What is he ashamed about? What does he have to hide? Why doesn’t he want to meet with the media and speak out about what he has done? And the Prime Minister again, you need to hold him responsible: this is a member of his Government. And he needs to ensure that this man comes to the House of Representatives to represent his government, to represent his political party, and more importantly, to represent the good people of Orange Walk North.”
