Media Makes Official Complaint on Removal of “Yellow Man”

Brian “Yellow Man” Audinett

There is pressure building tonight for the removal of “Yellow Man” Audinett as Macebearer and Sergeant-At-Arms given his appalling behaviour last Wednesday, when he attacked members of the media within the confines of the National Assembly.  The media has already sent a letter to the clerk of the National Assembly seeking to ban the macebearer from senate proceedings. Today, the People’s United Party stepped up the ante calling his behaviour an egregious usurpation of his authority. The P.U.P. thus calls for his termination since his “actions and unapologetic disregard for the responsibilities he assumes make him unfit to hold such a privileged position.”  The Speaker Laura Longsworth, we are told, is overseas and has acknowledged the letter promising to deal with the matter on her return. The P.U.P. reminds Longsworth of her stated desire to engender a more respectful tone in the National Assembly, noting that on her assumption as Speaker she spoke of the way people felt about the behavior and conduct of the nation’s business in the National Assembly and said that all Belizeans desire greater decorum from their representatives. Audinett was caught on tape during the proceedings of the upper House, interrupting and interfering with the Senate Special Select Committee and that session had to be suspended. The P.U.P. ends its letter stating that Standing Order Six (Two) of the House of Representatives states that, “the Mace is the symbol of the dignity and authority of the Speaker of the House.” As we said, the speaker has committed to deal with the matter on her return.
