Police Boast of Safer Community During Meet and Greet

Chester Williams

With gun violence significant low, police continue its program of community policing. Today, ACP Chester Williams was on the south side of Belize City, particularly the precinct one jurisdiction, meeting with residents to build rapport with them. Williams says the program has had success.

“Today we are doing the Caesar Ridge, Rivero, Craal Road, Waight Street area and again the feedback from the public is good. The public is satisfied with the work of the police; with the visibility of the police in the area; and so it is always good to be on these meet and greets because we always get good reports on what the Police has been doing on Eastern Division South. The fact that we have been able to somewhat calm down the violent crime and I must say thanks to the effort of my intervention team; Ms Finnegan, Brother Nuri and Jiweh, as well as the work of the police officers who patrol the streets on a daily basis ensuring that we cover the area that needs to be covered, the intense stop and search, the enforcement of the quality of life offences – public drinking and loitering; so you know that when there aren’t any major crimes the public feels safer. So, one of the things we are hearing is that they feel more safer in their community today, as opposed to before.”
