Belmopan Cops Collar Robbers at Circle R
Two Belize City men will spend the next five and a half years in jail and Belmopan police are looking for a third after solving a robbery reported last Friday afternoon. Twenty-eight year old Florentino Ruiz of Police Street and Abraham Vellos of Racoon Street were convicted this afternoon in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court of robbery and wounding. According to officer commanding Belmopan Police, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett, three men entered Circle R Products’ plant at Mile forty-four on the George Price Highway and robbed the manager, Isalberto Vargas, of eight hundred dollars and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone.
In the course of the robbery one of the men hit Vargas in the head with a firearm before they all escaped. Police expect to bring further charges against Ruiz and Vellos in relation to one of the firearms used in the incident, which has been recovered. The third suspect is still being sought and will face similar charges. Senior Superintendent Gillett announced plans for a ceremony on Wednesday to honor the officers involved in quickly bringing closure to the case.
