Wanted man shot by police
Magistrates’ Court was the scene of some commotion today as a case of Burglary was adjourned. Twenty-five year old Ernie Miranda was wanted by police for the burglary of Yvonne Little’s home in January of 2009. When Miranda was apprehended at his home on Zacaranda Street on Sunday, he alleges that he was brutally beaten and shot in his foot by officers. Miranda staggered into court on crutches today, where he was arraigned and pleaded not guilty. The prosecution objected to bail, citing that he had been a fugitive for over six months and had a supposed history of criminal activity. However, Magistrate Sharon Fraser ordered that he be taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. Fraser also ordered that a report of his condition be given to her and deferred making a decision regarding bail and adjourned the case until Tuesday.
