Fisherman pulls in 400 pound jewfish

Story PictureWhat to do with a fish this size? That’s what fisherman, Rick Sanchez, was wondering last Saturday when he caught the four hundred pound Goliath grouper locally known as “jewfish”. Sanchez showed off his catch to News Five – the full length of the pan of a pick-up truck. The unusual size catch was fished near Robinson Point and it took the strength of three men to pull it out of the water. Last we heard from Sanchez he was still looking for a buyer for the gigantic jewfish.

Rick Sanchez, Fisherman
“We set out wah two hundred pound test and ih tek wah time fi bring up; like wah hour and change. Ih fight and ih haul mi ova di wata and wet up mi shoes and wi fight ah and bring ah. We hook ah and everything and we thought ih get away right but we had to ketch ah back. Three of us bring it up but we use a crane to heist it up. We mi need wah crane cause three of us couldn’t heist it up out ah di wata so we use a crane.”

William Neal
“What area did you all get this fish?”

Rick Sanchez
“From Robinson Point. We hooked it good so it didn’t break away right but ih got at least three hundred and odd pound to four hundred pound.”

William Neal
“Is there a special technique you have to use to pull it in to make sure the line doesn’t break?”

Rick Sanchez
“You have to keep die strain and don’t give it too much sleck mek ih burst off. You just have to stay fight it, tighten the fishing line and noh give it too much sleck.”

William Neal
“What are your plans to do with all this meat?”

Rick Sanchez
“I di think bout fillet it because we ker it dah Chon Saan but Chon Saan fraid fi it because ih too big; don’t have space they say.”
