“I can tell you Isani, we are very pleased.  Many of the items that were front and center are items that are of a lot of importance to the country and people of Belize and those items were discussed in detail.  Needless to say, the Belize/Guatemala situation was front and center.  The Heads of Government took a lot of time in listening very carefully to what we had to say and they backed our position very, very, very clearly as the results of the meeting will show.  We all also discussed correspondent banking which is important not only for Belize but for a number of other countries in the region.  We took some time going through that to see what we can do as a group.  And of course the economy, I should repeat again that CARICOM is Belize’s third largest trading partner.  Tens of millions of dollars are exported to CARICOM on a yearly basis and this relationship is exceedingly important for Belize.  We discussed all of these things and we’ve come home very happy with the results of the meeting.”

Another meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government is set for July in St. George’s, Grenada.
