Orange Walk Cane Farmer Jailed for Theft in Belize City
A cane farmer from San Estevan Village up north, who moved to the City, is behind bars tonight for burglary. Thirty-six-year-old Rafael Yam claims he is suffering from stomach cancer. But notwithstanding, he is serving his first night of a five-year sentence handed down to him this morning by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser. According to taxi man David Popper, Yam trespassed into his apartment located on Barrack Road and stole a number of household and personal items with a total value of one thousand two hundred and sixty dollars on the morning of February fifth, 2017. A surveillance camera in the area captured the burglary and Yam was identified. He was detained in Orange walk and handed over to the Belize City police on Valentine’s Day, February fourteenth.
