Banana Bank AgCo Ships Live Cattle to Guatemala
The Ministry of Agriculture has yet to publicly comment on the issue of rotting potatoes that farmers across the country have been unable to get sold due to competition from Mexican potatoes imported by Belizeans on a weekly basis. But there is an agricultural and diplomatic triumph to report tonight in agriculture: the first shipment of live cattle to Guatemala through the border. It took place on February thirteenth, when Banana Bank AgCo shipped through the border to Guatemala. The shipment activated the sanitary agreement signed between Belize’s Agricultural Health Authority and its Guatemalan counterpart to formalize the cattle trade. Banana Bank already exports corn and other products to Guatemala. The Ministry calls on all cattle producers to go the formal route for trade now that it is available.
