Missing Shooting Victim Leads to Freedom for Accused Shooters

Two others also walked free today of a charge of attempted murder when the office of the D.P.P. entered a case of nolle prosequi.  They are notorious figures, Tyrone Meighan and Osman Mitchell, both of Belize City.  According to the crown, the nolle prosequi was necessary due to the circumstances involving the witnesses in the matter. The shooting victim, Guatemalan national Osmin Ellis Garrido left the country and could not be located so the accused men were set free. The shooting incident occurred back in 2009 at the corner of Iguana and West Canal Streets where Garrido was among a group of men who were gambling. Two men joined in under the pretence that they too wanted to gamble, but one soon pulled out a firearm and the group members fled in fear of their lives. Garrido tried to escape, but fell and that is when the gunman turned on him hitting him twice. While Mitchell and Meighan were both freed of this charge, Meighan remains in police custody for a separate incident in the city on Tuesday night.
