Aggravated Assault on Cops or Police Brutality on Youth Following Weed Drop?

Dean Nembhard Jr.

A Belize City mother is alleging that her son, Dean Nembhard Junior, is yet another victim of police brutality and that she has videos showing police taking advantage of him. Police, however, claim they saw Nembhard Junior disposing of a bag of weed in a bushy area of Krooman Road, Belize City on January thirtieth. Police also allege he committed a long list of infractions. His mother, Tefanie Francis, says she waited two days for her son to be arraigned because he had been badly beaten and police did not want him to be seen in that condition. Francis says residents in the Krooman area took footage of police manhandling her son when they claimed they caught him with the bag of weed. The images do not contain the allegations made by police, but instead the officers can be seen roughing up Nembhard Junior. But the table turned and when he was taken to court, he was read a total of nine counts for aggravated assaults upon three police officers, using threatening words, possession of a controlled drug, obstruction and resisting arrest. Nembhard Junior pleaded not guilty; he was granted bail in the sum of two thousand dollars and is due back in court in April.
