Glenn D. Godfrey Wants His Forty-Four Million Pound of Flesh

Glenn Godfrey

On the heels of three arbitration awards upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court last week and a fourth involving the Belize Bank still making its way through the U.S. court system, the last thing the Government wants to hear about is further litigation. But that is exactly what it faces from Glenn D. Godfrey’s G.D.G. Acquisitions LLC, which is renewing its pursuit of forty-four million Belize dollars owed for leasing equipment from the now defunct International Telecommunications Limited (Intelco). The case was originally dismissed in 2013 in lower courts in the state of Florida, but G.D.G. successfully appealed the verdict to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal in 2014. That court vacated the verdict and overruled the lower court’s assertion that Belize, not the U.S., was the proper venue for litigation despite the fact the G.D.G. Acquisitions is a Florida-based company and the original agreement allowed for the settlement of disputes in U.S. courts rather than Belize. The Said Musa administration paid more than thirteen million dollars originally for the network and equipment bought by Intelco and governed by a Master Lease Agreement which was extended, then cut off by the succeeding Dean Barrow administration on the basis that it was defective. The Government has moved the appeal court to dismiss the current case. We visited Godfrey’s Belize City offices seeking comment, but he offered none, indicating that he would issue a formal statement at some point addressing the issue.
