Miss Belize Heads into Competition for Miss Universe

The competition is heating up in Manila, Philippines where Belize’s Rebecca Rath is holding her own in the sixty-fifth edition of the Miss Universe pageant. On Monday, the twenty-three-year-old beauty and the other eighty-nine delegates from across the world were hosted at a Governor’s Ball at the SMX Convention Center. There they were all introduced and Rath was a vision in a crop-top designer gown from Rachel Allan. Within hours, the delegates were flown to island province of Cebu, where the first official event, a swimsuit fashion show took place. Rath, in an online interview with News Five, gave us an update on her journey at the Miss Universe pageant.

“When we arrived at the airport, there were crowds and crowds of people. From the airport until we got to the hotel, which was probably about three miles, of people lined up screaming at the bus that was full of the delegates. It was really cool because they had signs with each country name and some of the kids were dressed up in that country’s cultural attire and had their flags waving around. That was pretty cool, I’ve never seen anything like that and like I said, the Filipinos really know how to welcome you. We had swimsuit fashion show, which was so much fun; it was our first official event because it was the first time that we were performing I guess in front of an audience after the Governor’s Ball. It was a lot of fun and I am sure that now we can see the competition is on. It was good; we were using Yamami Swimsuit which is one of the sponsors for the Miss Universe pageant. That was a one-piece; it is not going to be the same suit that we will use of the actual competition night; it is going to be a two-piece.  Thank you very, very much for all your support and just know that I’m here, I’m doing my best. While this is a step out of my comfort zone, I am enjoying it and having a lot of fun. So I have to big up Belize, all day every day.”
According to Rath, there will be three ways to vote for your favorite delegate in the competition. The delegate with the most votes automatically qualifies for the semifinals. You can vote on the Miss Universe website, the Miss Universe Twitter and an app. The voting won’t start until the twenty-third of January and you can vote ten times daily on all three options.
