57 Pounds of Cocaine Recovered in Ambergris

San Pedro is primarily known as a premier destination for tourists from across the world and is visited by hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. But there is a flipside to La Isla Bonita because north of the island is also known for illicit activity. The trafficking of large quantity of drugs, primarily cocaine in the form of wet drops, has been a perennial issue for police on the island. And over the weekend, there was a major cocaine bust on San Pedro. Around seven-forty-five on Saturday morning, some residents came up on a sack on the coast; assuming that it was drugs, the police were tipped and headed to an area on the beach, four miles north of the town. There, the sack was recovered; it contained twenty-five parcels of suspected cocaine each weighing between two point two-nine and two point three-five pounds, totaling to a whopping fifty-seven point five-two pounds. The street value for the bust is just under two million Belize dollars. Police say that no one was seen in the area and so the drugs were labeled as found property.
