Musa says “criminal” Elvin Penner must be brought to justice

Elvin Penner

In his interview with the media, Attorney Kareem Musa told reporters that the matter of Immigration scandal is one that is still very much relevant. He said that while his client Francis Fonseca was sued for defamation – he never directly named Hulse to be responsible for what happened in the Ministry – but that the irregularities were happening when he was Minister. Today, he said that issues surrounding Wong Hong Kim and the passport scandal will remain on the front burner because of the nature of what took place – especially considering that it is one of the hot button issues being thrashed out in the senate inquiry.

“I believe that the issuance of that passport to Wong Hong Kim even to this day, as we can see with the senate inquiry going on is still a relevant, national issue that is of utmost concerns to Belizeans and so, yes the Honorable Francis Fonseca may have included the Honorable Godwin Hulse in his comments because at the material time he was the Minister of Immigration. Now, we are not saying that Minister Godwin Hulse is the one who sold the passports – that is what we are saying – it is not him but we know who the criminal is and we know who was guilty of that crime. That person, to this day, Daniel has not been brought to justice. We had to take a private prosecution against that individual and even to this day the Commissioner of Police – because after that private prosecution we went to the Supreme Court and Chief Justice ordered the Commissioner to complete the investigation and he is still the Commissioner of Police. And that is why as a country we feel so passionate about it and yes, Minister Godwin was caught up in the accusations but it was never meant to say that he was the one that sold that passport and that is the reason why as a Government we have a responsibility to say that these things do not happen.”
