F.C.D. still needs your help to save Chiquibul

The Chiquibul Forest Investment Initiative is a fifteen-million dollar Government project in collaboration with a number of high-profile organizations doing environmental work, including Friends for Conservation and Development.  Volunteer with F.C.D., Valerie Woods, today said that even with the investment, additional money is needed to keep up with the continuous, unabated illegal logging and harvesting of forest products and gold in one of the most pristine parts of Belize.

“The work that they do, the fantastic work they do with Chiquibul – they have very firm strategic plans that they are following – and in relation to the recent grant that was given, I am aware that a significant amount of that is for additional boots on the ground for them in terms of rangers. So they would be the ones best poised to address timelines, implementation and any other aspect other than continued park ranger assistance, which is much needed in that area.”

“But in addition to those Government funds, I imagine F.C.D. is seeking partnerships and other assistance?”

Valerie Woods

“As they always do; as, quite frankly, all N.G.O.s in Belize do.”
