N.C.F.C. speaks out on sex tapes

The National Committee for Families and Children has reacted to a story we aired on Tuesday on leaked sex videos posted on social media involving participants who appear to be minors and somewhat inebriated.  As we pointed out, the videos were shared by hundreds over the weekend. NCFC says the release of the sex tapes violates Articles nineteen and thirty-four of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which states that “Children should be protected from being hurt and mistreated in body or mind and to be free from all forms of sexual abuse.” NCFC also points out that this type of action is a form of cyber bullying that can have adverse psychological effects on the participants, such as depression and suicidal ideation.  The NCFC calls on parents to exercise some level of control on what children are doing when using social media or watching television.  The organization also calls on young people to be mindful of the use of social media, as the negative use can have lifelong consequences.  NCFC reiterates that sexual abuse of any sort against our children must stop.
