B.D.F. Take Break for Christmas Party

The announcement of Jones’ induction came this morning during the annual B.D.F. luncheon.  The brass catered to almost nine hundred soldiers presently enlisted in Belize’s armed forces.  Today, those men and women made merry and indulged in food, drinks and entertainment at Price Barracks.  Commander David Jones tells us about the Christmas party.

Brig. Gen. David Jones, Commander, B.D.F.

“In total we have here probably about close to nine hundred soldiers. But total we catered for one thousand one hundred people today because we had guests from the police, the coastguard, immigration, customs and also Foreign Affairs and also forensics. So we invited a lot of other guests who have worked with us throughout the year.”

“Can you refresh us on the objective of today’s event?”

Brig. Gen. David Jones

“Well the main objective is to say thanks to the soldiers for the hard work and dedication they have been providing for the nation throughout the years and this year. And it is an opportunity for the officers and soldiers who have been passing orders to them for the entire year, to actually serve them food and drinks today.”

“And for those who are posted elsewhere and not able to attend is there something separate that will be held for them or how are they going to be handled?”

Brig. Gen. David Jones

“Okay, we’ve had separate, but similar ceremonies as this at the different stations. I just returned from Camp Belizario in Cayo yesterday where I did the same ceremony and on Monday, I was in Punta Gorda doing the same ceremony for that unit. There was also a ceremony last week as well in the Orange Walk district. So each of the B.D.F. installation had their own ceremony, similar as this. For the ones who are working along the border who won’t be able to come here, within reason and logics, we will take over the Christmas meal for them on the day.  So the soldiers who are working at the Sarstoon, the ones who are working at Tree Tops, Santa Rosa—the areas that we can reach—we will take the Christmas meal and the New Year’s meal there as well.”
