Accused Killers of Ian Blair to Stand Trial

Ian Blair

Two Belize City men will have to stand trial for murder at the April 2017 session of the Supreme Court as well as a slew of other offenses including attempted murder dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm and aggravated burglary. Initially, Windell Thurton, Byron Flowers, and the alleged mastermind Max Orosco were charged for the murder of Ian Robert Blair. But charges were withdrawn against Flowers leaving Thurton and Orosco to answer charges. Blair was visiting Doctor Marcos Rugama Miranda on Simon Lamb Street when he was killed in a home invasion in January 2016. Following their committal today, the men were given alibi warnings where both indicated that they will be calling witnesses to speak on their behalf and their whereabouts on the day of the murder.  Police investigations revealed that Doctor Rugama Miranda was on his back verandah picking in clothes and upon entering his house through the back door, he saw two men assaulting Blair with what appeared to be a firearm and a knife.  Rugama Miranda claims that in defense he threw furniture and other items at the assailants. Blair ran into the room, but he was followed and stabbed on the chest by one of the men who fled with a television set.
