New Lands Minister Says There Will Be Consequences for Prior Wrongdoing

Dean Barrow

When asked about the dubious transactions, the incoming Minister of Natural Resources firmly stated that his administration is prepared to accept that there may be instances of wrongdoing in government but that there are consequences for such actions.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“We are prepared to accept what is wrong and we are prepared to ensure that consequences attach to the wrongdoer. That is the difference between this administration and the last administration. One last thing—you asked a question—the current Leader of the Opposition is still to us what appeared to be that quick pro quo with respect to the production share agreement given to TMZ followed by a transfer—dah mi TMZ…ZMT—a transfer of a cable company of one of the principals of Z and Tony and Said….transfer of a cable company by one of the principals of that company to him. Just recently we won that registry’s case where they were suing us for forty-five million U.S.  The media reported that, but nobody in the media reported why we won…because the court found that the last government and the last prime minister had utterly and completely violate the constitution as well as the Finance and Audit Act; turned over monies that could only have legally come in to the consolidated revenue fund to those to whom they had given controls of the registries; extended the contract that had been given for some twenty-odd years without the benefit of any tenure.  So please, understand that we don’t wish to try and deflect public scrutiny at all from any instances of wrongdoings that have taken place in this administration.”

Maybe now after waiting more than ten years I can actually get my title for my house lot…Lands department sitting on my paper-work because I don’t sign “Vega”

This should be akin to insider trading laws in the US. This is official misconduct. It’s white-collar crime to the max. Officials that do these things should be tried and jailed. Every election we hear about manifestos, how about a manifesto with rules and laws about family and self-enrichment as a governmental official. The argument about “they did it before we did it” is really getting a little tired. Both PUP and UDP does it. It’s childish and hypocritical. We don’t need to be reminded we need to forget. Belize we all know who these people are, but we still vote for them. Why?
