Is Vanessa Retreage Gone as A.G.?

Is Attorney General Vanessa Retreage stepping down as Belize’s chief legal officer?  It’s a question that will be answered following a discussion during Tuesday’s weekly Cabinet meeting.  News Five understands that the fate of the U.D.P. senator, whose ministerial responsibilities also include oversight of the powerful Ministry of Natural Resources, will be contemplated then.  Retreage was appointed first female Attorney General of Belize on November ninth, 2015 and was subsequently assigned the post of Minister of Natural Resources on August first during a Cabinet reshuffle.  During her tenure, Retreage has most recently served as Minister of Natural Resources and in her capacity as AG, was investigating dubious land transactions involving her predecessor, former Minister of Lands Gaspar Vega, his son Andre Vega and U.D.P. insider Sharon Pitts.  All three are named in separate land scandals involving parcels of land on the Phillip Goldson Highway near the Haulover Creek.  While Vega and Pitts have been ordered to refund government four hundred thousand dollars each, payment is yet to be made by either individual.  G.O.B. has also announced that legal papers were being filed against Vega for not returning the monies.  It’s interesting should Retreage demit office who will succeed with a legal challenge against Vega.

  1. Mike G. says:

Do you really think that the UDP politicians will actually go after their own crooks? Just change the AG, throw in a smoke bomb, and do a shuffle step or two and that should confuse the people enough to let the li breeze blow over.
