Chester Williams

The criminal elements kept off the streets over the weekend, but there are two separate stabbing incidents to report. On Sunday evening, a thirteen-year old minor got into an altercation with an adult male known to him in the Dolphin Street area. He wound up in hospital with two stab wounds to the abdomen. The other incident later in the evening involved a police officer who was wounded when he tried to intervene in an incident at a house in the Lake Independence area. ACP Chester Williams shared details of both incidents this afternoon.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“The first incident occurred around five-thirty p.m. thereabout, where a thirteen-year-old was socializing on Dolphin Street, in the vicinity of Wesley Upper School, when he was accosted by one Winston Staine, with whom him and two other minors had a disagreement, during which Mister Staine inflicted the stab wounds to the minor. The minor was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he is currently admitted in stable condition, undergoing treatment. The second incident took place last night sometime around seven p.m. thereabout. Police Constable [Raul] Juchim, who is assigned to Precinct Two, was socializing on Ordonez Street in the St. Martin de Porres area, when there was a domestic dispute within the area in which he was socializing, not involving him, ensued; he intervened in the domestic dispute, during which the male person who was a part of that dispute, inflicted a small stab wound on the police constable. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. The injury sustained was minor; it is not life-threatening; he is at home, recovering.”

For the first incident, police have detained a thirty-eight-year-old man of a Belize City address pending investigation. He and the minor are known to have had an altercation before. Constable Raul Juchim is resting at home and police are looking for the suspects in that case.
