Death by Traffic Accident in San Ignacio

San Ignacio Police were called out to the scene of an accident between miles fifty-six and fifty-seven on the George Price Highway on Sunday night. One man was killed after a six wheeler truck collided into another vehicle and pinned him down. San Ignacio police say they have since taken urine sample which was willingly given by the driver of the six wheeler truck. He remains detained and police are sending his file to the D.P.P.  News Five spoke with Superintendent Richard Rosado today about the fatal RTA.

“San Ignacio Police visited the scene where they observed a six wheeler truck with extensive damages to the passenger side and a minivan with damages to the rear portion of the vehicle. Both vehicles were seen off the right hand side of the road. Also observed was the motionless body of male Hispanic person, later identified to be twenty seven year old Carlos Medina, Honduran of a Santa Elena address. Initial investigation reveal that Marleni Wellington, fifty-six years, of San Ignacio was driving the Mazda minivan on the George Price Highway heading to San Ignacio Town. And upon reaching miles fifty-six and fifty-seven the vehicle experienced mechanical problem. Minutes later, her son-in-law and Carlos Medina came to her assistance. Medina then went and stood behind the vehicle and subsequently, a six wheeler truck driven by Trinidad De La Fuente, sixty-two years of a Benque Viejo Town address, travelling in the direction of San Ignacio, collided behind the minivan, pinning Carlos Medina between both vehicles. The scene was processed and the body of Carlos Medina was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where it awaits a post-mortem. Notice of Intended Prosecution was served on Trinidad De La Fuente and statement was recorded and the file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for her advice.”
