2 Walk from 2011 Murder Charge

Gilbert Craig Jr.

Twenty-nine year old Gilbert Craig and thirty-one year old Theodore Andrews were tried for murder by Justice Troadio Gonzalez this morning in the Supreme Court. But the two men accused of the murder of twenty-three year old Troy Bowen on August thirty-first, 2011, were quickly released after prosecutor Kileru Awich decided to throw in the towel early.  Awich called three witnesses including a Scene of Crime technician and the person who identified Bowen’s body as well as the deceased’s cousin, Leroy Gladden. But prosecutor Awich was not satisfied with how the trial was going and decided to enter a motion of nolle prosequi, setting Craig and Andrews free, but only for now.

If and when the police or prosecution through the D.P.P.’s office gets the evidence they need to prosecute the pair in court, they may be re-arrested. Bowen was shot once in the head a week earlier at the corner of Black Orchid Street and Marigold Lane and the men were initially charged with attempted murder; the charges were upgraded when Bowen died. Craig was represented by Senior Counsel Simeon Sampson while Andrews was represented by Anthony Sylvestre.
