P.U.P. Challenges Port Loyola Voters’ List

While at court today, Port Loyola representatives of both political parties appeared for a hearing on the current voters list of the constituency. According to Political Officer Gilroy Usher Junior, the P.U.P. is trying to clean up the voters list because a number of persons registered in the division don’t live nor have lived in the division. Usher Junior in an interview with the media made reference to one instance where twenty-five persons are registered as residing at a two-bedroom house on Fabers Road. One such person is Fiona Mitchell; but she says she’s got proof that she’s been living at that address for six years. But is the list padded? Usher Junior explains.

“It is of paramount importance that we allow that the people that live in the division decide for the division. Somebody living in Cayo cannot decide for the people living in Port Loyola and we are here to ensure that that no longer continues in that division to the best of our ability.”

“Now your opponent is saying that the names you all are seeing to remove includes someone deceased fourteen years ago and you all are claiming that the person noh live there.”

Gilroy Usher Jr.

“Well to the best of my knowledge, I do not agree with that. You know Boots Martinez will say anything. All I know is that this address that we are contesting here at number four Fabers Road; they have twenty-five people registered at this address. We know for a fact that only four people are living at this address from ever since. So we are here to try and get twenty-one people off of this list that we are sure do not reside at this particular address.”

“I’m just stating that I don’t like the fact that they put my name in the newspaper stating that I don’t live at four Fabers Road. I have all proof and documents to show that I live there for six years.”

Duane Moody

“So how did this come up?”

Fiona Mitchell

“I have no idea. It is a political thing and they need to get their facts straight.”

Duane Moody

“Have any of them come to check to see whether you live there?”

Fiona Mitchell

“No. the only thing I received yesterday was a letter stating that I don’t live at that residence.”
