Immigration Minister Looks Forward to Senate Committee Hearings

And speaking of the Senate hearings, Senator Godwin Hulse as substantive Minister will be must-watch viewing when he appears before his fellow Senators at some point down the line. He has complained that he personally was never consulted and asked for his views on the findings of the Audit Report, and has publicly taken issue with many of those findings. But nonetheless, he told reporters today that he looks forward to getting the issue settled, beginning on Wednesday.

“Absolutely! I have said that for years. I would wish that they call any and everybody, because as you know, when I took that Ministry, there was a lot of mess; I only found out afterwards. First of all, I’ll be honest; I walked in there naïve, you know, because I always think people do the right thing. I was shocked to find out it wasn’t happening. And so that my name got caught up in documents that I signed, which were presented to me in good faith and I believed in good faith, is offensive to me and continues to be offensive to me, and I want those people flushed out, man. You can’t run a country like this. After I had discovered what Minister Penner had done, we set about to amend the legislation, to try and stem this, because we can’t continue with that. I take nationality and thing very seriously; I am a very serious Belizean.”

News Five will have coverage of the Special Senate Select Committee on Immigration and Nationality’s first hearing in Wednesday’s newscast.
